I have seen people use dog wire instead or chicken wire for the fence of choice. I went with chicken wire because its about a third the price. But I was wondering if any one has ever had something bite though chicken wire. What do you use on your pen?

Yes, they can. My pen has part wood fence, one side chicken wire, another side 2x3 wire, and the fourth side is the barnside. Ya, its been repaired over and over again throughout the years. time to build a new one!

Coons are quite capable of shredding chicken wire with teeth and claw. Don't depend on chicken wire alone, add a hot wire. I have a wire 6" off the ground, then going up each post, and finally at 36".

Yes.

Such a bummer, because the 1/4 inch hardware cloth is so expensive.

Someone on here said that chicken wire is meant to keep chickens IN, not to keep predators OUT. The hardware cloth is definitely expensive, but well worth it in the long run IMHO.

Chicken wire IS to keep the chickens in - will not keep anything - or anything that wants to get in - out. I have just put up welded wire and am still concerned.

I used welded wire my dad had leftover after a project, works fine for me its expensive for a whole roll I think $100 but the roll is pretty big.

Here is what coons did to my runs:

My chickens can peek their heads through.
