Can roosters cause prolapsed vent? How to treat?

It looks pretty black in the first picture, but a little better in the others. Will it go back in at all? Just keep it from drying out more, and it will need some oil or ointment several times a day. I would soak her once a day for about 15 minutes, and oil her back up.

When I put it back in, she "poops" it out within 1-10 minutes. It's fairly hard to the touch, I think she thinks it's a poop. Once it is back inside her, the vent muscles contract like she is about to poop or pass an egg. Once it is out the contractions mostly subside.

I'll keep soaking her in an Epsom salt bath every day and lubricate and gently push the prolapse back in 2-3 times a day. I'll also keep administering a calcium citrate and d3 pill once daily

She is eating a decent amount and drinking a little too. She seems a bit frazzled and lower energy than before all of this but has a lot of life and fight in her still. But I'm just not confident this thing will ever stay in. It's hard and she just poops it right out because of discomfort. I'll keep at it another week and hopefully things change. I could probably keep her alive like this indefinitely if I were to give such tlc every day, but that means I would need to keep her isolated in a cage and on minimal light to keep her from laying, if I even had the time to do this forever. Fingers crossed by some miracle this thing softens up this week and she doesn't push it out.

It can be frustrating to treat when it keeps staying out, but hopefully it will get better.

Update: today when bathing the hen and gently picking at the black and yellow tissue, a good amount of it broke off. There was a little blood when this happened. I left the remainder on the hen since trying to pull it off would have caused much more severe bleeding. I lubricated the area and applied antibiotic cream. After this large dead mass broke off, the prolapse went back into the vent by itself. The hen still looks like she is straining a little, maybe the remainder of the dead tissue still feel like a small poop. The hen was awfully tired after all of this, haven't seen her that tired before. She is still eating and drinking well though. I didn't think she would make it, but after seeing about 75% of the mass break off and the prolapse receding, I think she might make it if she survives another couple days. Hopefully she does not get an infection.

I am so glad that happened and the dead part broke off. I am sure that you are very relieved after such a long recovery. Let us know how she continues to get along.
