Can Silkies and Polish crossbreed?

I recently got some Polish chicks, and some of them have 5 toes, feathers on their legs, and their feathers seem to have a Silkie-like quality to them. But they also have the body type of Polish and have a knob of feathers on the top of their heads. They are different ages, from about 3 weeks to 8 weeks. I'm wondering if its possible for them to be Polish/Silkie crosses? Do different breeds usually crossbreed? Thanks in advance!

Yes. It is highly possible that you have a polish/silkie cross. Some people breed them together to try for a specific quality, whether it be color, crest size etc... But most any chicken will cross with another if given even 1/16 of a chance.

If they have silkie-feathering, then Silkies would be in the genes. If their feathers are just 'softer' than usual, they could be Sultans, who have crests, feathered feet, and 5 toes. I also find that Sultans have pretty soft feathers, as far as normal chicken feathers goes.

If the feathering is true silkie-feathering though, they could be either Polish or Sultans X Silkie. Pictures would help.

P.S.-Yes, all of the breeds listed above will breed with each other.

I don't think they are ugly... They've been picking on each other because when I first got them they were all together, but now that I separated the older ones from the really younger ones they're growing their feathers back.

I've got a Polish/silky roo, it's completely possible and they're extremely sweet docile birds, there head pom poms slickback a bit more when they're crossed with silky though
