Im breeding a 20 week old cock with 24 week old pullets they have started too lay. i have but them together in a run what age will they start matting?

They probably already are mating. The easy way to check is to look for the bull’s eye when you open an egg. I’ll give you a link that shows what to look for. Sometimes the evidence is on the bottom of the yolk where you can’t see it. I gently use a spoon to turn the yolk over. If the eggs you are opening have the bull’s eye, the eggs you are not opening almost certainly have it too.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

It all depends on when either of these birds mature. Each bird matures at different rates. And once they do start to mate, you need to wait for about 2 weeks of mating to make sure you have fertile eggs. (this is in case you are going to incubate them yourself or sell them as fertile eggs.) It is best to wait for both the cockerels and pullets to get their mating and egg laying machines in gear for a while before you incubate or sell any eggs.

Good luck with your breeding project and welcome to our flock!

I agree with Two Crows. It takes a young cockerel some time to figure out and finesse his approach with ladies. Pullets just starting to lay may have some misshapen eggs or even shell- less eggs till their "plumbing" works out the kinks. Also pullet eggs may start out very small. Give the kids a while to mature a bit and you'll have better results.
