Can Someone Answer WHY Rooster Killed Hen?????

I have had chickens for years and no they are not crowded or fed some off the wall feed. My point was I too have never seen this kind of behaviour in a rooster and was wondering with so many chicken folks on here if anyone could give me explanation of his behaviour. I see most are as stumped as I am.

I would not necessarily give up on roosters entirely. Sometimes it takes time to find a good one but they do exist. I had one last year that was the best I've ever had. He took control of the flock without drama or aggression. When he bred the hens he did so assertively but not aggressively. There was no stress and no chasing. He kept peace in the yard and was never a problem with me. Temperment is often inherited. His father was good but his grandfather eventually matured inot a handful. Getting stock from a line of calm birds does not guarantee success but can certainly get you ahead of the game. Don't baby them when they are growing up. You want them to respect you- not necessarily fear you. I think it is also is very important to respect the rooster. Some people think that you should keep your roosters down, not letting them breed the hens, etc... I can guarantee you that treatment like that will give you a rooster that is always waiting to try to take "his" flock back from you and you will be at constant war.

I would not give up entirely either. Roosters can be really cool. Mine is very sweet and docile...polish crested...almost too much so as one of my chickens actually plucks all of HIS feathers out! I think I have controlled the situation with haircuts and ointments, but we will see...

seems like you have a mean roo. sometimes you'll run across such a bird. as he gets older he'll most likly get more aggressive.
