Can someone give me some advice on sour crop?

I can call the humane society tomorrow. I also have talked to someone that I know who devotes her life to animals of all sorts. She works for PAWS and several local vets, so I would imagine that if she were to know someone, she would have told me. My husband called around tonight to try to get help. Doesn't seem that anyone who may know how to solve this issue is wanting to help. I tried a few local vets and they wouldn't really give me much time or advice. The only place that I have not tried that I can think of is the humane society and I will call them first thing tomorrow morning.

and I actually have parrot hand feeding formula on hand. What was the purpose of feeding her that? My hen is eating, it's just not sticking to her bones!! So if I'd give her the formula, I'm not sure that it would do much. Worth a shot. I also don't know if my hens crop is impacted. It's not hard at all. It's liquid from what I can tell. All liquid came out tonight and her crop feels and sounds like a water balloon. You can hear the liquid sloshing around in there.

Some one WAY BACK on day one of your posting explained that sour crop is a yeast infection and needs to be treated with Nystatin. That is prescribed by a vet.
Also, as your birds get weaker, the gram negative bacteria will appear in the crop and that can be deadly. The crop does not have to feel hard to be impacted.
My hen ate hay and grass and that blocked the exit to the crop. The vet had to open the crop and remove the hay. It was not possible to pull the hay out from her mouth/throat. My hens crop felt watery also. By day 2, my hen had both a yeast and a bacterial infection in the crop, as well as having an impacted crop. It all goes together.
Either the crops are blocked or you have infections in them or both.
Once the crop is clear and appropriate antibiotics are prescribed, you can hand feed your bird to build up their strength/vitamins. Any vet in your area who treats parrots/cockatoos/ cockatiels can treat your hens! But the humane society is there to help us prevent suffering. I hope you can get help - I will say a pray for you and your hens!

Maybe someone did quote that WAY back. So many different things are advised, how is one to know WHAT is the correct thing? I feel that I have TRIED EVERYTHING minus calling the humane society and actually doing the surgery on my own. I am a stay at home mother and we don't have 100.00 or more to have a vet come out to take care of this issue. Google sour crop and see what comes up. I have tried the vomiting thing, ACV, yogurt, pumping her crop, oil, whatever was advised. Some say some of those will help and others say don't!! Maybe my only choice would be to take her to the humane society if they will and if nobody can help to put her down. I hate that thought and thought maybe just maybe I could help her on my own. I've talked to some people who live and breathe for animals and you know what they said...when a chickens sick, usually it's hopeless for them. Sorry, I won't just give up on her. I'm doing the best I can with what I have to work with.

Kristin,
I totally agree with you. I know you have been trying as many things as you can to help your hen. I also know what you mean when you say you don't have the money. Don't get too upset about the people that say you are not trying enoungh. You can only do what you can afford. I had a hen here a little while back that no one knew what was wrong with her or exactly how to help her. I ended up trying many different things.... but it was not ment to be for my Red. She lost her fight, and Red and I did fight as much as we could. Not to say that you are going to end up loosing your hen like I did mine, I'm just saying that we both do care enough about our birds that we are not going to give up on them easily. You are doing great dont get discourraged.

Kristin,
How is she doing today? Any improvement? If not do you want to or did you try to flush out her crop again like you did before and then suctioned it out with the tube and syringe? I'll help if you need help. Let me know please. Or if you want I can help in trying to do the surgery. It is coming down to the wire now and I think we have to do something drastic in order to save her. I will help!!!! Please let me know.

Thanks
Mollie

Hi did you turn her upside down and massage her crop? It should just poor out, make sure you lift her after 8 to 10 seconds so she can breathe!
