Thank you everyone! I agree, our Jaffa (my husband named him!) does look rather like your hamburghs. He and his friend are going to live on a local farm where I am sure they will be happy. Someone is coming to collect them today and has kindly offered us a couple of hens in their place.
Is there anything we should know before introducing the new girls to the coop?

She doesn't limp on it or anything and acts fine even with her giant spur. Strange...


Anyway, I agree that both of them are absolutely 110% roosters. I'm also thinking barred rock and hamburg.




And for your new hens, quarantine them (separate them) for........uh, how many days? lol I think it's 1 month or less, but not sure on that.

You will want to keep them separated from the rest of your flock at first, just in case they have something that can pass onto your other flock (such as a contagious sickness, mites, lice, etc...) Give them an inspection for any lice, mites, or any other suspicious things before introducing them to the flock. They probably won't pass anything bad onto your flock, but it's just a good safety precaution to take. Better safe than sorry.
