Hi I am new to this site!I came across it while googling what kind of predator could have killed my birds.I am going to post pics here so maybe you all can tell me what is doing this I have tried chaining my dog up I think he may be the one doing it but I am confused becuase I have never actually caught him doing anything,I have just seen him bring the carcus up in the yard!I have only been raising chickens for about a year, they are free to come in and out of the pin but I have some ducks a rooster and a hen who never come out and they are fine.It is only the ones that get out that die.I have lost like 12 little chickens and 4 roosters!I am about to tear my hair out trying to catch this predator in the act!HELP!!It all started when I found 2 of my ducks dead and the heads were gone the bodies were still there and not touched so that was something totally different! Here is how I found the latest chicken and there is feathers scattered! My dog got off his leash in the middle of the night..he was unleashed this morning when my husband found this chicken and a rooster is missing.

where do you live i live in maine we have fishers and they will kill just to kill they will kill and eat one bird and then kill the rest and leave them . they can get in the smallest hole .

That is the work of a dog, look at all the blood clotting under the skin, the dog played with it a while before it died
set up a trail cam and see what else is in your yard while the dog is there.

I had a massacre happen tonight and was having trouble identifying the predator that killed 50 chickens. I live in VA and found out we have long tailed weasels all over. VDOT has been destroying acres upon acres of land and sterolizing it so the weaselshave moved. Their prey have disappeared. And have slaughtered 50 chickens in one night. We're shocked, upset, angry.
