Can someone post the Rhode Island (ordinances) for keeping chickens?

The ordinances differ from town to town. try searching your towns name along with "zoning regulations"

I found your laws!!.

First, in "Zoning Ordinance" useage (http://www.town.coventry.ri.us/zoningregs.pdf)

It depends on what your neighborhood is zoned as. For residential districts

it looks like you can have 6 chickens on any size lot, 25 feet from property line.

Farm animals such as cows, goats, horses, and sheep shall require 2 acres, limited to 2 animals, housed at a minimum of 50 feet from the property line. Other farm animals such as chickens, rabbits, and ducks shall be limited to 6 animals, housed at a minimum of 25 feet from any property line.[/b

]

Ony zone "BP" does not allow them. (Planned Business Park zone)

But in the town's Code of Ordinances "Animals and Fowl" section
(http://gcp.esub.net/cgi-bin/om_isap...obase=coventry.nfo&softpage=Browse_Frame_Pg42)
they don't say anything about # or setbacks, just this might pertain to roosters:

(b) The keeping or harboring of any dog or other animal or fowl
, whether licensed or not, which habitually howls, yelps, barks or causes noises, which habitual howling, yelping, barking or causing noises is affirmed by persons in the neighborhood as provided in Subsection (c) of this section, is unlawful and is hereby declared to be a public nuisance. Each day that such condition continues shall constitute a separate offense.

Hope this helps!!

Good Job SeaChick. Yes, if you live in a neighborhood in Coventry you will have to follow those ordinances most likely. There are so many people there that have chickens and I forget that they still live in the more rural part of the town. I see alot of chickens on the RI craigslist and many are from Coventry. Good Luck to you.
