Exactly what I've done and it works. The "leave it alone," is usually the most important part. They need to rest, so just check once per 30 minutes or so to change out the moist paper towel.
You're right. A small Dixie cup on its side works too and keeps the chick from sticking to it. Either that, or just moist paper towels work.
