Can straw be a source of mites?

I took this from one of Shadrach's links. As you can see they may be called straw itch mites but they can be in dried foodstuffs like dried fruit, seeds, cereal products, and dog food. And especially in baled hay. Not just straw but hay. @Shadrach thanks for showing it's not just straw for straw itch mites.

Straw itch mites can be a problem when dried foodstuffs (fruits, seeds, cereal products and pet food) and especially baled hay, are infested with the larvae of storage insects and placed in warm, humid environments. Under these conditions large numbers develop. The mites are predators of insect larvae and also attack man and any domestic animal that comes into contact with infested material.

Straw itch mites are not what I was thinking of, I was talking about roost mites. But there are many different kinds of mites.

If you bring in infected straw, you can bring in an infection. Not because it is straw but because it is infected. If you bring in infected hay or wood chips you can bring in an infection. If you bring in infected feed you can bring in an infection. Not because it is feed, but because it is infected feed. As a gardener I try to be careful with what mulch I bring in. Not because mulch is bad but because contaminated mulch is bad.

Contaminated straw is bad, Clean straw is straw.
