We have 23 chickens, three ducks and DH would like to get some turkeys. Can they all live together? my chickens and ducks get along ...well... just ducky!!! (LOL) I don't know anything about turkeys and would like to hear from any one who can give me some advice...
thanks...
oh by the way my baby duck that was hatched by Momma chicken is doing great with its' two chickie siblings!
I will try and post pics soon...

Well you have to careful of blackhead (isn't that what it's called?). Other than that sometimes turkeys are mean to chickens. Not in my case though...my chickens beat up on my poor turkeys so we had to give them away. Every time the tom would fluff up the chickens would peck his butt:-( I hear about a lot of people that do mix them with great success but then I hear about people who don't. Good luck!

The key point is that chickens can 'carry' blackhead. They may never show symptoms, as they are less likely to become ill from it. But they can transmit the disease to turkeys, which is often fatal. You can read more on blackhead here.. http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10370_12150_12220-26481--,00.html

There
are people who raise chickens and turkeys together quite successfully, however I do not recommend it for various reasons. JMO Disease, size, and feed requirements are just a few reasons I would consider in making my decision.

Thanks for the info... I think that I might just stick with my chickies cause they are soooo much cuter than turkeys anyway!!!

PLus, my turkey's poo always stank to high heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!! It might just be what I was feeding him but I always knew when he had a movement. Sorry to be gross but that it is definately a deciding factor in my never purchasing turkeys again:)

Hi hun.... I am one of those that has chickens, ducks, and turkeys all together.... I have not had a problem with any of them, except for the occasional bicker and squable.... but they all seem to do well together.... The turkeys are free range all the time... while the ducks and chickens go up together at night. IF you would like anymore info, please feel free to email me. Tes

I have turkeys and chickens that roost together at night in the same coop with no problems. They have been together since they were little and yes there are squabbles but they dont last long. You get the same squabbles with chickens too...well I do at least. I have ducks also and as long as they are all out free ranging they are fine but hte ducks go in a separate pen at night. They are soo messy and this way all get along. I have 2 palm turkeys and the chickens dont seem to mind at all...
