can turkeys get cocci/blackhead at any age or just when young?

i thought my turkeys (now just over 6 months) should be big enough to have built a resistance up by now (they've been on medicated feed since birth and 2 weeks out of every 4 weeks their water is also medicated. but every time i take them off the medicated food or water, a turkey gets ill and dies.....!


im i bound to have to feed them this all their lives??

By 6 months they should have an imunity to cocci. What meds are you giving them.

medicated turkey crumbs (against cocci and blackhead)

"Product Type

Oral broad-spectrum antibiotic intended for treatment of coccidiosis and specific bacteral diseases in poultry.

Description and Composition

ESB 3 powder contains 30g Sulfaclozine (= Sulfachloropyrazine) sodium monohydrate per 100g. The powder is freely soluble in water.

Properties

ESB 3 is an antibiotic belonging to the group of sulfonamides. Like all sulfonamides, sulfaclozine is a competitive antagonist of para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), a precursor of folic acid, in protozoa and bacteria.

Folic acid is a coenzyme necessary for the synthesis of nucleic acid, hence sensitive species do not multiply in the presence of ESB 3.

Indications

ESB 3 is indicated for treatment of coccidiosis in poultry due to infection with Eimeria species, fowl typhoid due to infection with Salmonella gallinarum and fowl cholera due to infection with Pasteurella multocida.

Dosage and Administration

Dissolve 1g ESB 3 30% per liter water. This provides approximately 50 mg active ingredient, or 170 mg ESB 3, per kg bodyweight. Treat for 3 consecutive days and repeat after a 2 days break if necessary (Shuttle programs like day 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 or 1, 2, 5, 6, 9 have also been found effective).

* For coccidiosis in chicken caused by E. tenella and E. necatrix doses of 1.5g to 2.0g are indicated.
* For the treatment of cholera and typhoid, doses of 1 to 2 g ESB 3 per liter water for at least 5 days are required.

Withdrawal periods according to national registrations.

Special Precautions and Warnings

* For use in drinking water of poultry. Prepare fresh water daily.
* Avoid underdosing. Sick birds may drink less water than normal. When such birds can be isolated the proportion of ESB 3 in the water can be proportionally increased.
* Avoid overdosing. At high ambient temperatures birds drink more water than usual, and thus the concentration of ESB 3 in the water should be decreased.
