I have a flock of 4 chickens and another hen with one week old chicks. I plan on getting another coop to put the momma and 4 chicks in. And I also have another coop that houses the other 4 chickens. HOW DO I combine them during the day and seperate them at night? Neither coop can hold more than 5 chickens.

I had four different flocks free ranging over the winter and all went back to their own coops on their own at night. Once they get used to a coop being their home, that seems to be where they go. I only had one bird that decided she wanted to be in the wrong coop every night and I finally gave up and let her stay there.

Same here!...I had two coops and two flocks...3 older hens and 9 younger pullets...They free ranged all last summer and then I added another coop to my existing run and transferred the flock of 9...All 12 share the run now and still go to each of their own coops at night!...The flock of 9 lay their eggs in the older hens coop...It is really funny but it seems to be working out perfect!

I have SEVERAL coops of various sizes and different chickens roost in each of them. Every now and then there is some coop hopping going on, but I don't care where they sleep, just as long as it's in a coop. They all free range during the day and return to "their" coops at night.
