Can Uploads be Avatars?

I want my avatar to be a recent upload. How can I make this work? I am missing the secret button to push... and I am get really frustrated.

Please send me some easy instructions; as my brain is not understanding big complex things right now.

Yes. Go to the upload button at the top the the screen, browse for your image and select the resize button. Avatar will show up so when you upload it , it will be small enough for an avatar. Then go to my uploads find the image and highlight the line that says image not link left click and copy then paste it in the appropriate place under profile.
