Today we brought 4 "Day old Pullets"... do they look like they are color-sexed or feather-sexed?

Both blacks have white underbellies- black lehs
One yellow is darker than the other, and the lighter has a black spot on its back

They were probably feather sexed. You can't always guarantee their gender, because people can make mistakes with this. I've bought 'female' chicks that have turned out to be males. However, they're usually correct.

Do you know what breeds they are? I would guess that the blacks are australorps, the lighter yellow is a white leghorn/australorp and the other yellow one is an isa brown. I could be wrong though.

@Quailobsessed @Mylied

We plan to wait it out obviously until they feather in. I'm not sure what breeds as we got them from a local produce store who was sold out but one of the many buyers hadn't picked up and they were willing to part with four.

I would trust them to be fairly accurate... but I've mever brought this way before. Haven't owned chickens myself except two we brought from local people to discover they were Roo's 🤦‍♀️

I've bought vent sexed pullets a handful of times and got pullets. If it's a reputable place, I bet they're female.

@Mylied

From what we can tell they are the go too place im town- Heck, we only went in to get Goat Feed... and then I saw meat chicks, and right beside them in a separate pen the day old pullets.
Looked at the other half waiting in car and he just held up four fingers haha. He obviously knows whats good for him!

Chickies are the best. :-D Give it a few years and you'll have 10.

I spoke to our neighbor while feeding out goats (they decided our pen was no good so she'shousing them until we move).

And apparently she's brough babies from the same place which were Australorps and Rhode Island Reds. She believes we have 2 of each.

Will be interesting to watch them grow as one just looks too white in my mind for RIR.

Okay, cool. I have owned plenty of australorps and rhode island reds before (I currently only have one of each though).
