I am battling mites right now, can we eat the eggs. I used poultry dust and only on them not in food or whatever can we eat the eggs. What about if I haven't treated them in a while? Thanks

I once asked an Ag professor at the University of Arkansas if it was safe to eat the eggs after you had treated for mites with Sevin. That specific Ag professor raises chickens. He said it would not be a problem. I still don't personally for a couple of days, but I also wait a couple of days after the recommended waiting perod to eat vegetables that I have treated with Sevin. I'd just rather be safe.

I think it is probably safe but it is a personal choice.

Okay, the chicken house and roosts still have the powder visible on them, but not on the chickens and it is called poultry dust, not seven, (if that matters) so with the dust still visible in the coop can I still eat the eggs? I did wait after treating the birds but what about if the dust is still in the coop?

People buy eggs in the grocery store, and they have no idea what the hen has or has not been exposed to. Do you really thing egg producers would trash eggs just because they are dealing with a mite problem?

I would call the company that makes the stuff. They should be able to tell you for sure. Good Luck

The main active ingredient in Sevin is Carbaryl. Here is the MSDS:
http://www.afpmb.org/pubs/standardlists/msds/6840-00-932-7297_msds_sevin.pdf

According to a study a found in http://pubs.acs.org, no traces were found in the eggs of poultyry treated with Sevin.

Doesn't poultry dust contain pyrethrin and Sevin is different?

What about if we think our hen has mites but we haven't treated her yet. Can we eat the eggs?
