Can we have our Guineas nutered?

I know that caponizing on chickens should be done when they are only a few weeks old. As they get older the testes get softer and more apt to tear upon removal. Any bit left behind will continue to produce testosterone and the whole procedure would be in vain. I would say yours are a bit old for the procedure.

Guineas are noisy and they go where they want. That's just how they are. Generally my females are more vocal then the males!

Yep guineas are a pain in the butt in many ways. No I would not suggest caponizing at this age or any age for that matter, merely pointing out that the procedure is one that will not normally be done my a vet. It is very invasive and in my opinion a risk in the best hands and a significant risk in less than experienced hands. I would imagine the roaming would not change I would believe that the fighting and territorial nature would change with caponizing, my guinea cocks became a significant threat to my chickens and became dinner. I will hatch some more this summer and butcher them in the late fall. I think that will be my strategy with guinea fowl. I like having them around but in their breeding season they are trouble.

I have a freind that is happy to keep a group of them as he has a large pen that he can devote to them. I will hatch his eggs and we will share the entree's
