We just brought home some new chickens to add to the flock we already had, and one of them is a rooster, is it okay to put him with are rooster we already had in the same coop?

i had tried to do that with one of my 3 roo's. I had 2 RIR roo's that were together for their whole life so they were ok with each other. I tried to integrate my buff roo and hen at 10 weeks old, and the rir roo's were too dominant already.

With the two RIR roo's one was more dominant than the other. The dominant one was always the first to check everything out. was the first to peck me. The other roo kind of held back and just hung out. Although together, the roo's did good.

my guess is that you won't be able to without severe or maybe even a death.

I would proceed with caution or try to find a new home for the one roo.

Side note: All my roo's got rehomed.

I'm a newbie, but for now we have 2 roos and 2 pullets (didn't know and got the roos first). At first, one of the roos was being the dominant roo but hubby caught it and held it a while and now the other one seems to be taking over a little. These two were raised together though, so not sure if that makes a difference.

We do plan to get more hens and possibly separate the roos or get rid of one of them (not sure yet...my 9-year old son named the one we're contemplating getting rid of...

Before I put AC into the coop and had lost 3 hens, I had three roos with 12 pullets. It was too much.

All three roos are in what I call, "The Bull Pen".

When they all get a little older I'll put the main roo in the coop and then I have two other pens for the other roosters and I'll rotate the hens I want to breed them with.

What are the ages? If I read your signature right and you have 26 hens and 1 rooster, it may be possible. Or if they are still chicks. But some more on the ages and numbers would help. Also, how much room do you have? Do they free range or are they in a coop and run?

If you do have 26 hens and only one rooster and plan on hatching eggs, you probably do need another rooster.

I have four Roosters with 40+ hens. But I have been hatching my own eggs for years. In the early days when I started I had a mixed flock and when I had surplus Roos, I would butcher the aggressive ones and save the ones I liked. The dominate Roo (Mr Studly) will take Mulberries out of my hand and give them to the hens. My Roosters are a mix of Australop and Easter Eggers with a bit of Rhode Island Red and Barred Rock thrown in.In my experience, the most brightly colored Roos are the most aggressive. I've kept the black muted colored ones and they seem to get along in the flock just fine.

Sorry guys, i forgot to change my signature, the ones listed below were all killed but 4, then my husband went and bought 19 more, who are about 4-5 months old now and the ones we bought yesterday, some are about 5 months and some are anywhere from 1-3 years old, all together we have 43 hens and 2 roosters. We let them free range, last night were the roosters first night together, and all appeared to be fine, the new rooster is much older than the one we already had.

It depends. With my Barred Rocks and Speckled Sussex, I bought them as chicks from a hatchery and raised them together. I have 2 roos and 10 hens in my Barred Rock pen and 3 roos and 10 hens in my Sussex pen and they get along well. But if yours are already mature and have not been raised together, then it probably won't work, but they may be OK after they establish a "pecking order" and decide who is boss. If the new one is older, it may work even better.
