I am working on what I want to use as my chicken coop door. Even though my pen will be put up tight, I don't want to risk something getting into the pen and then being able to walk right in on my girls. So what is the best door? I am think automatic door, so I don't have to go out there ever night but how do you know what time to set it for? I would hate to have it close and leave one poor chick out.

LOL What is your best advice on chicken doors?

I have the d 20 add a motor and it is plugged into a digital timer, I have it set to open at sunrise and close 1/2 hour after dark and I adjust the timer as the days get longer, very simple.

Where do you find them? I love shopping at my Local stores but I am thinking that could be a high dollar item and I want to get the best deal but a good door.

i bought my auto coop door from foys pigeon supply online. A lil pricey but install was super easy. It takes 4 aa batteries i put in the energizer lithium ones and they ran it for a little over a year and half.

I got the motor from Amazon and the timer at Lowe's, look on YouTube to see some videos about it it was around $80 some of the other doors are upwards of $300 I'm very happy with this, I have never had to go out and open the door or close it since day one.

A digital timer would be about 10 dollars at a local store. A hardware store is the cheapest place to get a motor.
The motor would be the part I wasn't sure about. I will start checking it out. Matter of fact I just remembered I have several timers from Christmas. So it is just the motor I need to look for.
