We have a healthy & beautiful Roo. He has always respected my hubby (will attack the rest of us though, LOL) but never him. I just manage it & shoo him away with a stick or broom.
I tried the whole taming him thing and chased him down for weeks and held him, but that got exausting

and didn't work.

This morning he got very agressive and my husband noticed that his spurs were very long & sharp.

I am asking can these be trimmed so if he does spur us it might not hurt so bad? Or are these flesh?

Thanks,
Lisa

I took my Barred Rocks spurs right off with a pair of pliers.
It sounds bad I know, but its not bad at all. The spur
slides right off and there is another small one inside. It drips
blood for a little bit but heals ups quick. If you do it this way
your hens might peck at the new "red" spurs for a couple days
but they stop once the spur heals. The guy I bought my Roo
from showed me how to do it. The spur is actually hollow.
If your interested I can explain it better.
