Can you candle coturnix eggs?

I can`t see a thing in coturnix eggs, not like I can in bobwhites. I use a small glass of lukewarm water at around day 10. Put your egg into the water and if it starts to wiggle you got a live one in there. It only takes a second to see any movement, don`t leave em in there too long though. about 15 seconds is all it takes. Good Luck

Float testing should only be performed on overdue eggs.

You should not wet eggs that you are going to set. The hen deposits a antimicrobial coating on the eggs called "bloom" water will remove this and opens the egg to pathogens.

No Moe "putting them in water don't make them sick" but it sure gives them a better opportunity to become sick.

You could ask the "breeder" if they could give you as many of the "non spotted eggs" as possible. I know that I would receive quite a few eggs that would be easier to candle to show the veins because they would not be spotted.
