We are new to having chickens for pets and have these lovely girls...2 white commercial layers and 1 black pure breed australorp. They are approx 18/19 weeks old and have just started laying in the last few days....very exciting for my little girl!! One in laying on the ground outside the coop rather than in the nesting box though, can we do anything to encourage them to lay in the nesting boxes instead of on the ground? Thanks for your suggestions :)

Make sure your nest box is private and comfy. Try putting fake eggs in it or perhaps put a few of theirs in it. I had this problem and i think most do but my hens caugt on quickly. If yours free range try enclosing them in a run round the coop for a week. That way the most private place they can lay is the nest box
