Can you control the movement of chickens from certain areas

We have a small flock and for most of the day the roam free, we have 2 acres and they can pretty much go anywhere they like. There are jus a few areas that we would like to keep them away from. Like in the garage or on the deck that connects to the house.

Is there a way to discourage the chickens from entering various areas without using fences?

Now for your question: Our small garden is fenced in ...to keep the chickens out! My porch has a gate across the front to keep them out!! If I leave any open and leave the door to the house open for ANY reason...I have a chicken who runs in and runs to the kitchen to the dog food bowl

but I just say fence or babygate and close your garage. I don't know of anything else. Sorry.
