can you cut the chickens toe nails?

my kids and I are getting scratch up. how and can you cut them?

You can trim them, but not too short. If you cut them too short, they can bleed. I have heard of some birds going into shock and dying from that. I use guillutine style small dog toenail clippers and trim just the front edge of each nail when they get too long. My birds free range, so long nails are usually only a problem on old or confined birds.
