Wow, that's surprising! Don't tell your guys, but I've found that what my roos lack in size they more than make up for in attitude!

Old english game bantams?

Those are different. Silkies, cochins, frizzles... meh, bunch of kittens.

I had 4 roos (2 different large breeds) with about 12 hens for several months. Never a real cock fight that I saw, no blood, and no lost hen feathers or hen injuries. They would occasionally chest bump or posture at one another.

Guess I lucked out. Hope you do too!

I have a friend who must have about 15 roos now and less hens. Hers free range all day and each group that was raised together have their own sleeping roost boxes. She doesn't have a full coop, just closes them in in their little roosting boxes for the night and lets them out early the next morning. Her roos all seem to live quite peacefully together, often times I see three or four chasing the same hen and then taking turns once they catch her. This friend of mine though, she can bond anything! She's got the magic touch with animals!

One of my pens has 6 Golden Laced Bantam hens, 1 pullet, 1 young roo, and 1 adult roo (sire of young roo and pullet) The young roo is now mating with 3 of the hens and his father has 3 hens and the pullet. They seem to get along just fine.

How do I tell what I have?

Here are photos of my boys..

Taco: He is the oldest male, we got him last summer and he is quite tame. Every once and a while he'll try to show me he is boss, if I approach his girls and they squat.. he'll peck at my leg. Otherwise he is a softie.. Maybe a Dorking??

Then there is Mr Buff.. with his favorite girl. Is he a Buff Orpington? But his comb is different?

He has been crowing the longest out of the batch hatched in November. He always seems to deferr to the other boys..

Then Buster.. I think he might be a Splash Wynandotte? he is larger than the other bantams.

He can be a bit bossy..

And Ugly, who seems to have the worst attitude.. He and Buster try and square off a lot..

I was thinking that Buster can go with my friend who is taking some of my girls as he is larger and would do well with the larger hens.. I was hoping to find a home for Ugly and keep Mr Buff and Taco.. as they are similar in size and seem to get along...

I usually put one roo with no more than 3 hens....mainly 2 hens. I have a roo pen with 4 in it (2 RIRs 1 Andalusian and 1 EE) They all get along just fine, no hens in there but they don't fight over food or anything.

Small question. 2 roosters, but it's the ladies taking the beating.

The bantam roo is the older leader and the much larger cochin roo is the yearling that runs around scared... but cochin is always violently jumping the girls for his two seconds of glory when bantam roo isn't looking. He does too much damage to some of the hens, and when they're screaming, bantam roo always comes along to chase him off. Two or three of the girls are starting to look a little bare back, bare neck, random combinations.

But the big blue cochin roo seems to be a favorite around here. So the question is if we snack on the bantam roo(cute little light brahma, even cuter in pinot noir!), would the cochin roo grow up and be a better man as a single male with 6 girls? Or is he just a rough dude with no respect that needs the ax? Do the ladies naturally save themselves for the alpha? So they naturally reject number 2? Or is he violently exhibiting his frustration? Maybe just a young male with ground to till? It's all so confusing. I've no experience with these soap operas. I've already devised a great chicken stuffed chicken recipe involving these two guys but my plans have been thwarted by some logic that requires a rooster in our little egg house.

Thanks for any help.
