Can you find Chirpy??

Chirpy has been visiting us for the last few days. I found this baby bird that had fallen out of the nest last week. While he had a few feathers he was no where near flying age, so I don't think this was a case of fledging, but rather a true fall out situation. Normally I would have left it alone except that he happend to fall out of the nest of finches that has been built up under the overhang of the outbuilding, and was sitting right where my cats go by all the time. The poor thing would have been doomed.

Anyway, a week later Chirpy is doing great on regular diet of moistened cat chow. I think he's finally at the fledgling age, as he figured out how to fly yesterday.

A few more days and Chirpy will be going back out into the wide world.

These birds just know how to find food - they fledge once they can fly up into a bush, etc and then spend a few days figuring out what to eat on their own, while also begging and getting food from the parents.

I've already started introducing him to seeds and insects - the typical finch diet. I see a lot of his relatives out at my bird feeder. He's just today started actually pecking at stuff - I won't kick him out until I feel he is starting to successfully recognize food stuffs.
