Can you get a purebred silkie that is standard?

Only if you know the right people. And I don't.

To me, Silkies have never been a true bantam. Just like bantam Polish are not really 'bantam' in the traditional sense of the word. My d'Uccles are truly bantams though!

Silkies come from the orient and they were orginally they were a standard size bird. There black meat is considered special.

They were bred down for showing purposes much like poodles were.
(Poodle originally hunting dog).

I don't believe that is correct. The standards in Europe & Australia are larger than US birds, and their bantams are smaller. Silkies have been in the US for much longer than in Europe (according to several European breeders)--Krys, Henk, please correct me if I am wrong on this. I have also read that it is very easy to lose the larger size of the standard silkies--that they will revert to smaller size if one is not very careful to pay attention to size as well as other traits in selection.
