Last night we had a Fox get into my hen house. It got both of my chickens around the neck. Luckily no skin was broken only feathers pulled out.
Both were taken to the RSPCA and given pain relief and antibiotics.

However, now bringing them home one of them has a painful neck and it is floppy at times. I am tube feeding her but I can tell that she is in pain.

Can I give her a small amount of Paracetamol crushed up in to the liquid feed i'm giving her????

Please let me know, thank you

Jennifer

I dont recommend it since not knowing the proper dosage for chickens could possibly cause liver damage if overdosed. In humans, overdosing can cause liver damage. Here's a link:

I recommend that you contact the vet at the RSPCA and get a script for the recommended pain meds your birds need.

Thank you,
Yes I realise it can cause liver damage. I will get in contact with the vet and see what options I have.
Thanks :)

Sometimes chicks are hatched like that, it's a genetic thing. But is the yellow pus?

she didn’t look like this when hatched it started happening day after and not puss it’s actually her eye of what I can see

No to paracetomol - most pain killers do not work on birds unless in very high dosages, and then it causes liver damage.

At bird rescue, we give 'loxicom/meloxicam' family drugs for pain killers - even these will stress the liver.

I had heard of using aspirin, but apparently even this doesn't really do anything according to our avian vets. If you can get ahold of the former, use it for set times only - do not keep a bird on it for weeks on end.

Sometimes they can get a yellow puss scab across the eye. Flushing it with saline and trying to clean it off with a QTip or tweezers may help. Then apply a bit of Terramycin eye ointment or plain Neosporin 2-3 times a day.

I have tried flushing and eye drops I ordered some vetrx so waiting on that I just feel helpless to her she hops around on one leg as well due to swelling on hock joint an I wounded if there related in some way I was told to give her the tiniest bit of calpol? For pain relief
