I live in Michigan, so our dairies are extremely natural O__O Can you hatch eggs from Kroger or Hiller's? Have you done it before? And how would you go about doing so? I have a 75 watt light (It's red), but I've been told they need to be much much brighter. I can't afford an incubator, sadly, so LIGHT BULB or home made incubator is the WAY TO GO ! :D Haha ! If anyone (especially from Michigan) has hatched store bought eggs from a common store in Michigan (Kroger, Hillers, Walgreens...) then please do share how you did it and the results. If not, I would still love to hear your stories ! Thanks for your time ! :x

Most egg production chickens never see the light of day, let alone a rooster. No, no matter how natural it's a waste of money to fertilize food eggs. You can however buy fertile eggs from hatcheries.

Thanks! Actually I found some eggs at this place called Whole Foods. I dunno if you have em' where you're from, but they're extremely organic and all their eggs are fertile. I believe I can even see the date the eggs were LAID... It says right on the carton "FERTILE EGGS" and many people have hatched production hens out of these, so I'm gonna give it a go !

Can i ask how many eggs you got? and how much you had to pay for them? I can't wait to see them!

Oh hai ! Just now seeing that post... ! You can check out the link in my description to see way more than you probably want to know about me and my journey on hatching these eggs lol. Currently (7/25/12) I just put in a batch this morning. I had three rounds with trial and error, so hopefully all the knowledge I've accumulated from those times will allow me to hatch one or two. Last time, one started developing, but then died after I candled it. It was so early in incubation.. I then figured I had killed all the others by candling too much (I did it several times a day. I WAS super impatient.) because I didn't wash my hands before candling and the oils from my hands had clogged the pores bringing in oxygen. That's why the egg died after I candled it. It was the only one I hadn't candled !! So now I got 15 of the biggest eggs in the carton and have them in the incubator... I won't candle till' day 8 to be safe... It certainly has been a "journey", but this is my last round with poultry if these don't hatch . It's just too much!

Back to edit how much they cost ! If you get the "Grade A Cage Free Fertile" eggs, they're about 3 bucks a dozen. I bought 2 cartons, so I could get the biggest variety of eggs and so I could incubate the largest ones. I put 15 in. The remaining eggs can be used for eating, checking for fertility, or even incubating when the first batch is done, though hatch rates will have dramatically decreased, it's still worth a shot.
