Hi, the feedstore told me they were Maran's and Ameraucana. The black one does look like some of the chick Maran's so I think that is correct, but these cute tan ones I am not sure about.

Thanks,
Lukababe

Do the brown ones have green legs? They look like Easter Eggers, and the black ones could be Marans... I'm ot ver yexpirienced with that breed. Or they look like Barred Rocks.

The black one could be male black sex link or cuckoo marans or barred rock... Its impossible to tell at this stage. If you got them from a feedstore then they are EE's!

Hmm... well Easter Eggers/Ameraucanas have green legs... probably just something genetic/mixed in.

Hi
welcome-byc.gif
and welcome to the world of chickens. Almost all hatchery bred chicks sold as "Ameraucana" at the feed store are actually crosses. Though they have many Ameraucana traits, they fall short of the standard for the breed and are often called Easter Eggers (EES). Most of the time EEs will lay colored eggs, and they are quite nice, attractive chickens.

Your two brown chipmunk babies are probably EEs. They will usually have a pea comb and green legs/feet, so you can look for these traits as they get bigger. Also, a good Ameraucana/EE trait to look for is very fluffly cheeks and beard area on your chicks, which will grow into the adult muffs and beards that are a common in EEs (and mandatory for Ameraucanas).

What do the legs look like on the black ones? Are they white or yellow? do they have feathers? My guess is the spotted one is a BR IDK about the solid black.... I need more information

The other two are Easter Eggers, commonly sold at feed stores as Ameruacanas... regaurdless of leg color, ear color or beards or muffs and the lack there of. They are not Ameruacanas so there are no standards about the way they "SHOULD" look

Hrm..... I don't think that's an EE at all, actually. Straight comb, pink legs, no muff. No signs of EE. Yes they can be mixed, but it should have something in the general trait list. It might actually be a Welsummer chick. Hard to tell at this point, since so many breeds start as chipmunk patterned.
