I took in this roo from Animal Control this past Spring when he was a cute little youngster - long before I could tell he was a roo. He's a pretty big bird if that helps to ID him.

He was turned in with no info. The nearest I can figure is that he as an Easter chick from Farm & Fleet in Woodstock, IL. They get their chicks from Cackle Hatchery if that helps to narrow the ID down. His black feathers have a purple and green sheen in the light.

Edited to Add: Legs are light/white in color. Closer Photo of opposite side.

He's not an Easter Egger with that single comb. The picture needs to be a little closer, because it kind of looks like he is gold laced, but, I'm not sure.

It's also hard to tell what color his legs are...they look white in the pic.

Hopefully someone will come along and have an idea, but from the pic, he looks like a "Barnyard Special"...a very pretty one!

Good luck!

It doesn't matter what he is if you like his appearance and personality and he is beneficial for your purposes. I have been cross breeding with a end goal of a large dual purpose bird laying lots of colored eggs. That thrives in the Midwest winters and summers. I happen to like the black feathers with the blue/green sheen.

"Barnyard special" is kind of what I thought. Generally he's pretty good natured, though he is starting to challenge me. He has not quite figured out his job yet. Let's hope he stays nice. He helps to complete the picture in my small farm yard.
