I am wanting to get an accurate current nmakeup of my lil flock. Photo no. three and four (left to right) is the same chick.

The order included:
  • dark brahma
  • marans
  • welsummer
  • dixie rainbow.
The lady from Hoover's said she "thinks" they are marans; but definitely not the brahma (thank gawd). Thought I'd try one more time here for help.

TIA,

Lyric

Check out Hoovers in Indiana. I believe they might be closer to you.
I have some dark brahmas from Hoover, by way of tractor supply, that are especially beautiful for hatchery chickens. One of them weighs 9lbs and the other isn't far behind. These are older pictures, from before they were a year old, but you can get an idea of size and color. They are so friendly and easily handled too.

This is Bitsy, she is the smaller one. They are much more heavily feathered than is practical here in Texas. I have a light brahma from Ideal hatchery that is sweet and pretty big, but ugly as sin. A buff brahma from Ideal that is gorgeous, but small.

Okay, your post has taken me from "Awwwww, to 'bout to roll on the floor and laugh save for my fingers having to leave the keyboard to do so!" Wait, an "ugly as sin" Brahma; never, nooooo. Ain't no such thing exists!!! Never seen an ugly Brahma; prove it!!!!

I'll try and get a picture of her. But be ready, cause she ain't photogenic. Oddly enough, the roosters love her.

She is actually a speckled sussex. They aren't as fluffy or heavy, as the orpingtons, but do much better in the heat.

Well, now you've given me food for though 'cause truth be told . . . . jubilee was/is on my list for 2023. Maybe not so much now. Barring further mishaps (and we know life happens) I now have three spots left here at Hip Hillbilly Acres. I was hoping on a frizzle, a Jubilee, and something with an afro (sultan, polish, silkie). Hmmm, it is hot as dickens in GA during the summer though. Mostly humid.
