Hi! So as you may know, I’m pretty new here, but I was wondering if you can hold a baby chick for too long. I always want to hold my chicks, almost all day, but is there such a thing as too long? Cupcake (my Brahma) falls asleep in my hands a lot (she’s so cute!) and if she wakes up and starts peeping I immediately put her back in to make sure she gets food and water (and also if she’s cold) but do they ever start thinking maybe that my hands are boring or maybe annoying? Thanks!
(Sorry it’s so long)

It’s really good to hold your chicks. If there is a lot of commotion going on it could overwhelm them, though. So it’s good to have breaks for the chicks sake if it’s busy. When you first get your chicks it’s best to give them a day or two to learn their area. The first day is always very overwhelming for a chick. I absolutely love holding chicks!!

depends on the chicken, I wouldn't force a chicken to be held for longer than they want to, they will associate you with something they don't like. You can also chill them if you hold them away from their heat source for too long.
Yeah ok! Thanks! I usually just hold her for 10 minutes or so, let her go back for a bit for food, water, and warmth, and then pick her back up after another 10 minutes or so.

I love holding them too! Especially in their first week or so when they’re like little cotton balls! (But waaaaayyyy cuter than cotton balls, and softer)

The first flock we had I was always accused of holding my pet chick too long. She always had food, water, and time with her siblings. She would fall asleep in my shirt; when she needed to potty, she would let me know!

I love holding chicks—it’s been the best way I know of them attaching themselves to you. Of course, just like all beings, some loved it and others hoped you wouldn’t even look at them.

I also found that more docile, friendly breeds didn’t seem to mind being held as much, like your Brahma. ❤️

Agree, holding them frequently is a great way to make them tame. The chicks I spent more time with when young are still friendly adults, a few still enjoy lap time once in while. Just be sure that they do not get chilled.
Enjoy them, they grow so fast!
😊

make sure you give the others attention too! (if they like it)

I spent time holding every one of mine for a few moments at a time, open palm, with food in my hand. They sat in my hand for a bit, then wondered off

helped a lot with taming
Ok, I have 2 chicks, (my other family members have chicks too so a total of 7) but they hold their chicks a lot, so I have been just holding my 2. I used Cupcake as an example, I probably have been holding my Sapphire Gem (Safaia) the same amount, thanks!
