can you house two broody's the same pen.

This is what I have going on.I had a hen sitting on 15 eggs.She hatched out one chick.It is a staggered hatch.she left her nest after three days..and I had another hen go broody.I took 5 of the eggs she left put them under the new broody..and than put the remaining in the incubator.I have a area in my run.that I use to house a hen to brood and hatch her young.I need to move the new broody out of the coop.and into the brooding area.will it be safe to put the two hens in the same area together.the area is 6x16.

You will only know if you give it a "supervised" try. Every chicken is an individual. There are some that just love all babies! Some people have said they two hens that will both mother the same chick and then there are some that will fight over the same chick.

Definitely make sure you are ready to intervene. Don't make my mistake, I had my one broody hen and her two chicks in their own pen and at two weeks I decided to that they were mobile enough to be out with the free range flock. Well my other hens (keep in mind they have been able to see them since day one) cornered one of them and killed it

. All within the time frame of 5 min while I went to the house for a min. (after it looked like everyone would get along.) = moral of the story, watch them like a hawk or just stay with the safe route and keep them separate.

Thanks,I think I Will keep them separated.The hen that hatched out the one chick.Last year she hatched out 8 and after three weeks.she started to attacked them.so I had to separate them from her.and I took over caring for them.When you are uncertain as what to to do.its always helpful to gets someones advice.
