Can you ID my TSC mystery chicks~white plymouth rock~wyandotte? UPDATE

Quote:
Male and female barred rock chicks have the white dots. Females usually have a smaller, more clearly defined spot. That chick looks like a female, because its down is very black, its legs have a nice, dark black wash down the front of them, and the white spot looks smaller than most of my BR "males for warmth".

Also I am not sure if this will help any or not but this is what my similar black sex-link pullet looked like as a youngster, I know they can look drastically different pullet to pullet and especially when comparing pullet to roo but idk, was hoping maybe a pic of my pullet could help you decide what you may have or tell you what you def don't have

Sorry for picture size, I am still working on getting them to a reasonable size. I hope I have been able to help some, even if just a little bit.

Thanks for the input!

Our chicks are definitely from Mt. Healthy. The TSC store where we go had all of the empty boxes laying around that they'd just emptied from that morning's delivery. So we are limited to the 24 or so breeds that Mt. Healthy sells.

A black sex link. That's interesting. They did have those for sale...so who knows?!

Hey Tazzy, where in KY are you? I got some mystery chicks from the TSC in Nicholasville a few weeks ago. I still haven't figured out what some of them are! My white chicks are now getting dark bands on their feathers. And I have two black chicks that look like the black sex link pullet someone posted, except they have a little white dot by their eyes.

andora, I shopped at the Shelbyville TSC. We did visit Nicholasville a couple of weeks ago. And Lawrenceburg! I don't remember what they pretended to be selling. I know that the Elizabethtown TSC also gets its chicks from Mt. Healthy, because I saw the empty cartons in their store last Saaturday. So it might be regional and Nicolasville going to that hatchery, too. if so, if you go to their website you can look at their 24 available breeds to narrow it down a bit.

the black on the feathers sounds a little like the columbian rocks that our TSC had. they were solid yellow, but then started to sprout little white wing feathers with thin stripes of black on them. They had them about a week in the TSC store, so that's why I saw the wings start to sprout from the previously all-yellow chicks.

no idea about your black chicks. maybe start a thread with the pics of your babies and ask for suggestions on breeds? I'd like to see them.

That's
the original thread I started with all of our TSC chicks. I don't remember if I updated it or not with the darkening wing feathers on the white chicks, I think I started a new thread with those.

I don't understand why it's so hard for TSC to keep track of what breeds they are selling! Are the breeds not listed on the invoice or the box or anything? My store said they thought their chicks came from Mt. Healthy.

I'll start a new thread with a new picture of my black chick. I'm curious as to what it is. It might be an australorpe or some sort of sex-link. They were in a box with the red faced black chicks (pictured in that thread I linked) and the employee said that bin was all sex-links.

Today my TSC had some yellow chicks feathering in all white, some yellow chicks with a darker gray/yellow spot on their heads (what could those be??), some black chicks, and mallards.
