yep spruce grouse. actaully many in this area, in the mountains. they seem tame because they think you can't see them in the summer and fall . . . very flighty in winter though. from what I have been told they eat pinecones(nuts) and such, thus the name

Yes it's a spruce grouse. It's a male though, the hens aren't nearly as pretty
