To my knowledge, a brooder is just an box or place where you keep your chicks contained and warm enough until they can keep themselves warm. With that said. I hatched in my brooder in April, it was my first hatch. I used a 250 watt bulb and I covered all the openings so there was minimal air transfer but there was still fresh air. I was constantly finicking with the light to keep the temperature steady. We were still using wood heat at this time, so when the fire went out the temperature dramatically dropped. And if we had the heat on to supplement the fire, it dramatically rose. I had to use an aromatherapy diffuser to keep the humidity up during lockdown, which needed to be refilled every 4 hours with a tube and syringe... yeah you can hatch in a brooder for sure. I'm not sure I would do it again, but if I did, it would be in the summer.
