can you mix standards and bantams?

After doing some research I'm pretty sure that you can mix them as long as you have a rooster of both types( I guess so that a bantam rooster can mate a bantam hen and the same for standards). However, if I got bantams I would only get two or three hens. Would this work? My fear is that our standard cockerel would try to mate a banty and end up hurting her. Our cockerel is a Rhode Island Red, and doesn't mate the hens too often, but I'm still worried. The hens are docile. Any answers, tips, or suggestions are appreciated.

He shouldn't hurt her.My bantam is about the size of my hand probably doesn't even weigh a pound, and my probably about 6 1/2 pound New Hampshire Red rooster mates and he is still able to fertilize her.

I had a RIR who would too mate my bantam,he probably weighed 5 pounds, and he never hurt her,and was a young aggressive cockerel too wen it came to mating.

I have a d'ulcce hen and a Sussex/phoenix mix cockerel. He breeds her all the time and in over a year she has never been hurt. She is his prized hen and anytime she is calling he goes running. I do get fertilized eggs but have yet to hatch any so I can't help you there, but mine do just fine together. :) Hope that helps a little...

I have one bantam hen, mille de fleur D'ulcce, she is at the top of the pecking order. She is the only bantam I have, I have 5 other standard hens and one standard rooster. They all get along very well and are all very friendly.
