Can you really hatch eggs under a heat lamp?

My husband claims that you can take the fertile eggs and put them under a regular heat lamp and they will hatch! I think he is off his rocker...is he?

Tell your Husband Sure it can happen, BUT its about like winning the Big Lottery----very, very, very rare does it happen for Most!

Well we tried this & it was a bit heart breaking. My Cochins hatched some eggs but had a late hatch after two weeks of hatching babies & rejected first baby almost killed it. It's ok now! The other egg we had to assist in hatching cause it dried out under heat lamp. I was able to put that baby under momma so it lived but it was hard cause it bled had to keep egg very moist & be very gentle during hatching. Then other had a more successful hatch as we assisted, but I got the poor baby way to warm under heat lamp & the other egg that was trying to hatch & lost them both!! So sad! My experience with hatching with heat lamp is its not moist enough & to hard to keep a consistent temperature. It was devastating. I felt terrible. I think once eggs are kicked out or momma is tending to her hatched babies best to put the eggs into an incubator for a consistant tempature. Anyhow that was my sad lesson. It can be done cause we did it once but without momma Hens help or a way to keep temp & moisture perfect it's a hard one. Supper sad. But maybe this will help someone!!

We tried this at my daughters school we put the eggs in a fish tank with a heat lamp and a container of water covered it (making sure the cover didnt touch the lamp) They hatched but we only got a few to hatch.
Hang on I'll find the pictures.
