Can you recomend a Reliable/Accurate Digital Thermometer that won't break the bank.

I know a lot of people grab the thermometer/hygrometer from Walmart....but I read a lot of people griping about how it didn't work right or only worked for a while....

I also saw some cheapies on eBay, at 2.99 but figured they must be junk

So if you have a reliable digital thermometer you've used for incubating can you show me a pic or link me to it for sale online.

Not worried about if it includes a hygrometer. I would like if it kept a record of high and low for the day.

Hi farnorth,

I can vouch for these two models:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digital-LCD...1130?pt=US_Weather_Meters&hash=item1c361d19ea

Humm... Let me rephrase that... I can vouch the ones I got are accurate (compared to each other and to another one I already had) and pretty reliable... Working flawlessly for almost 4 months now.

My 2 cents

Cheers

Well, I am on my 5th thermometer 'type' . My original ones that came with hovabators are gone. I had 2 accurites, ne older one I used before, and another I just bought and it read 3-4 defrees different than the older one. My husband has 2 meters, but they read different.... I bought a human touch the temple digital (which I am relying on most) and a human digital and mercury type in a cup of water .... husband also has a temp gun, but it takes way varying temps, sometimes it agrees with the digital temple one and other times it says 3-4 degrees different....

I have 2 accurite cheapie with the read bulb and a humidifier coil... the humidity actually agrees and with the digital accurite. I am going to buy a couple flat incubater thermometers from Fleming probably like came with the Hovabators and a another with a probe, either the egg one Incubator warehouse has or the probe. can't seem to find reviewers that agree! Or else the temps are off +-2 degrees,

My eggs are developing, but I need to get the temp right ! so I can get at least one problem out of the way...... oh, some eggs died early so I know I may have a problem..... (not chickens)

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I think I may go with a Incu-therm Plus. All the reviews for it were good and it has a probe.

Caliber III also had good reviews and they've improved it, Caliber iv is supposed to be even better because you can calibrate it.

I like my incutherm +.. I have a piece of dental floss tied around the bottom of the wire, down by the probe so I can move the probe around in the incubator without opening the incubator to do spot checks of my high and low spots. I also use a mercury thermometer, so my high/low spots stay in a therapeutic range. I did find that either the temps or the thermostat went wonky when I raised the humidity up to 65% last year. Keep an eye on that. I'd love to hear from other hatchers if you've had problems with temps or readings when you go to high humidity. This year, i'll be sure to use an extra thermometer, during lock down, just to be safe.
