Can you show a color not recognized by the apa standard of perfection?

I really like lemon blue cochins and people ask for SQ Lemon blues but is there a reason to have SQ if you can not show them even in 4-H or state fairs? I also like BLRW and they are not accepted in the apa either.

From my understanding, they can be shown but they can't place any higher than Best of Variety or Best of Breed if they are typey.

As a side note, showing is what gets new varieties recognized by the APA. Showing un-recognized varieties is a good thing!
