I'm about to start collecting and hatching eggs and need a good way for Identifying chicks. I really don't like using zip ties because they grow so fast. If I use a toe punch will that get them disqualified from shows? Does toe punching have any other ill affects on them that I should be aware of before I do this?

I toe punch every chick that hatches here, everyone I know breeding birds for show toe punch, thankfully this is not a defect.
The only thing you have to watch with toe punching is to insure that you do not clip the side of the toe and cause it to bleed. If that happens it will increase the probability of teh others pecking at the toe.

Yes u can toe punch , judges understand what it is

really? and you get away with that at a show?

Toe punching will not deduct points from the bird; missing toenails WILL.

Not to show. Just simple identification. There also aren't any APA sanctioned shows in my area, just fair shows, so I don't know what the APA likes or not.
