Can you tape a broken egg?

I know this sounds crazy. I have 2 silkies sitting on eggs for the first time. Within the first two days, my clumsy white hen completely broke one of the eggs and cracked another all at the same time. It looked like her foot went right through it. The one that was completely broken I obviously threw out, but the other was only cracked. This was about 4 days ago, and now the egg has a small piece missing, but the membrane is still there. I can see that there is a chick developing and there is significant progress from 4 days ago. So can I put a small piece of tape over the little hole and hope for the best? There is no smell at all and my hen has been very gentle since them. Please help, I don't want to discard it if the chick could make it.
Thank you

I heard wax/nail polish work better

Put hey you could be the first to use tape too....I think too much water would be lost though

Hi! I use masking tape to repair little cracks and dings on my eggs. Has always worked just fine.
Good luck!

edit: In fact, I've got an egg in the hatcher right now zipping that somehow got a big ding in the pointy end and was repaired with masking tape.

Thank you all so much for your encouragement and ideas. I went back out about a half hour later after I didn't get any responses and just decided to do it. When I got out there they had been in and out of the box for their daily eating and drinking break and someone had almost smashed it getting back in. I was so upset, I wish I had just taped it right when I saw it. The hole is now a lot bigger and I think the membrane may have been a little punctured. I saw a darkness through the membrane, which I'm guessing is the chick. I put tape on it anyway and stuck it back in, I'll just watch it closely. Does anyone know how you can tell if the chick stops developing? I'm new to this, so I'm not experienced with candling at all and what I should be looking for.
Thank you, I'm just going to keep hoping.
