Can you use grass clippings on the coop floor

I have to agree with Dobislady1 http://www.pic4ever.com/images/fingersmiley.gif It is too dangerous and can possibly be fatal.

I agree with chickerdoodle's agreement.

Even dumped outside a pile of fresh grass clippings (especially if treated with high-nitrogen fertilizer, which is common) quickly becomes a hot, slimy mess.

Certainly NOT on the coop floor. If you know for certain they weren't treated with insecticides/weed killer/fertilizers then used in moderation in the run is fine.

I use that when I run out of hay, it takes about 3 days to dry out when I spread it on a cement slab in the sun. The birds seem not to know the difference between that and hay, and its so nice that its free...I don't fertalize my lawn either. So, use the dry grass, its basically skinny hay.

I like the idea of grass clipping in the run. Agreeing with others about risks regarding pesticides and using clippings in the coop.

I've recently had a nasty experience with grass clippings rotting in a pile (someplace else in the yard...not near the chickens) and it was BAAAAD. They stink somethin' awful!

i guess i'll try it out, thanks for the advice on letting it dry out on cement or pavement. i'll dry mine out on my driveway for a few days and give it a shot.

Just thought I'd share my experience with grass clippings- I use grass clippings in my gardens for mulch (dried and not dried) . When they start breaking down they REALLY smell and moisture comes out of them which also produces a liquid. Although they are great for the garden beds I'm not sure if you'd want your chickens rolling in them? Maybe when it's cooler out it would work though

But every good idea is worth a try.
