can you use wood chips or mulch for coop bedding?

Hey guys! We have 2-week chicks, and we want to use wood chips(or mulch) for coop bedding. Can that be done? If so, how young can they be, for us to use it? Please comment w/ answers.

But I'm not sure mulch is the best idea. The bedding wood chips found in most pet stores and farm stores is probably best.

what are you going to use in the coop when they become big birds?

They sell compressed bales of pine chips, 3.5 cubic foot, at the feed stores for about $6. My chicks are on that with a layer of paper towels to keep the chips out of the water dish. When they get taller so I can raise the water up it'll be only the chips.
