So, I had a broody sitting on some of the eggs from my layer flock. She was down in the corner and I didn't feel like crawling around in the coop and fighting with her, so I decided to let her hatch out a clutch. This week she got off the nest and I saw that she was hoarding a mountain of eggs. I took the eggs away, give her some polish eggs out of my incubator.
I counted the eggs: 35. I candled them, and boy was I in for a shock: 30 Embryos in various stages of incubation. Most were moving and obviously alive! They are in my hovabator.
I don't even know how a 4 pound chicken could manage to keep 30 eggs warm enough to develop & be alive - but she did. I wish I had taken a picture of the nest, but here are the eggs right after I candled them.
