Canada winter coming, bare tail areas...

I have persistent bare spots on the tail areas of most hens.

It came about because of overcrowding, now corrected (added 300 square feet of run).

Very few signs of regrowth, will their skin freeze in occasional -30C winters? Average temp is -15c.

They get 18% layer mash with crushed oyster shells as a constant side dish.

Feathers need protien to come in. Some people go to chick starter nonmedicated to help their hens through a hard molt. I would keep oyster shells on the side still.

I got a bag of Calf Manna, and give my chickens a bit of that 2-3x a week. About 1 tablespoon per bird, mixed in with their wet mash treat in the afternoon.
