I was really surprised when I went into my TSC and found the chicken feed has no ingredients, or much of anything in the way of content - just 'contact us' on the tag. Suprised that our US counterparts seem to have easy access to this information... I've seen the photos of the tags on this site
Anyway, I have access to the Rolling Acres and Masterfeeds Organics from TSC, and also have a local Shur-Gain dealer, which I haven't been it to check out yet as it's slightly out of the way, but their website is similarly obscure. The organic is more than twice the price, and it would have to really be worth it. My philosophy falls more along the lines of real food - if it's an organic version of the same junk, I will save the money (people food that contains organic corn syrups etc. really is not a healthy alternative, it's just sustainable junk), and if either Rolling Acres or Shur-gain is mostly real food, I'd be happy with that. I'm thinking they all contain soy, which is a small concern for me as I'm allergic and I'd love to try to eliminate it, but since there are so few options ...
I'd love to hear people's thoughts, especially if you've gone through the process of contacting the companies. My babies don't arrive for a month, so I've got some time to make my choice!
And secondary question/ frustration- not sure about the Shur-gain, but the others only come in 25 kg bags. So 25 kg of the starter for 4 weeks, for 5 chicks... hope my chicks are really, really hungry.
