Hello I am the Canadian Shepherd. I want to start my first flock and I want to get chicks from the US. Is this legal to get chicks shipped over the border? Thanks looking for Golden and Sliver laced Wyndottes.

Glad you joined us!

I'm not sure if shipping chicks over the border is legal or not, but I'm sure someone here can tell you that.

Good luck with your (hopefully) future chickens!

I have tried to get chickens from Canada and it was impossible to get them to ship over the border but I don't know about the other way ....

We're glad to have you.

I'm not sure whether they can be transferred over the border or not. Sorry!

I am not sure. However a new member just posted something about having them shipped to a nearby town here in the US and then going and picking them up and driving them back over the border.

You might stop by the Canadian thread and chat with other members in your territory to see how they do things...https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/144/canadians-check-in-here

Good luck and I hope you can come up with something!! :-)

Welcome to BYC!

You will find a lot of good information here. Keep on asking questions and you will get many good answers.

You may also want to read the FAQ below.

I'm thinking that with customs(??) and shipping time and distance involved - it would not be a pleasant trip for the chicks/chickens. Many of them perish just being shipped a few states over in the US. Whenever possible it's best to pick up in person and not gamble with the postal service.
